heh, shampoo, patience, and going in knowing I'm gonna get wetter than him by the time he's done! We used to have 4 white percherons, gotta love those days they all had to go out on patrol. I just hate when he has to go to work in the morning, because he has to sleep in at night. so basically we leave him spotless, and come back he's a new breed color: he's a green roan perch! We use him as back up/special events now cause he's a pain to keep clean. So I get to love on him more!

Wonderful pics. Thanks for sharing them. Our mounties here in Indianapolis ride Percheron crosses as well. Unfortunately, there is much talk lately of the mounted patrol program being cut, even though they are the best PR for the IMPD. I fear for the fate of the horses if that happens.

yeah, budget is forcing alot of units to go under. in most cases, I'd assume they'd get adopted out? well I know our boys would go to anyone on the list to adopt the retired horses, or their old owners. I understand why its happening:
cost to care for x amount of mounts + salary for groom/manager/staff/officers/etc. > services rendered
I doubt the county gets paid by civilians visiting parks to have the mounted officer there.

I'm just hoping for the best and trying to fix whatever may get broken before replacing it so we dont take a huge chunk out of the county budget, including working a few extra, off-the-record hours to get stuff done.

Here is a recent article from our local paper about the possible cuts. They've grounded the 3 city police helicopters and the horses are most likely next.

I think I posted to you before but, it's been a while ago now. I'm located in Maryland too but, I'm down in Calvert. Are you guys up in PG off Enterprise/Greenbelt/ 193? Or are you up in MoCo by Norwood Rd? Or somewhere else entirely?

Do you ever get to go out trail riding or showing? And, if you ever want to help get my percheron nice and clean before a show you have an open invitation!
